Stockholm Convention Regional Centre-India focuses on research, education, training, capacity building activities in the area of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) monitoring in the environment, exposure assessment, POPs in products, recycled plastics used for children, food packaging etc are the current focuses. Hazardous chemicals in building materials, textiles and consumer products in a major area of concern, as citizens lack awareness. Indoor environment poses major exposure pathway for chemicals originating from consumer goods. Awareness programs for students, and public are organized to communicate the findings of our research. The results are published in peer reviewed journals and communicated to policy makers and regulators. I believe public awareness is the key in advocacy and influencing policy makers.
