The constitution of Zimbabwe in Section 73 accords all citizens the right to an environment not harmful to health or well-being. In this regard, the Constitution bestows the responsibility to the Government to act reasonably to accord this right to citizens. The Environmental Management Agency (EMA) is therefore mandated to ensure that these rights are protected and guaranteed to citizens. Central to the discharge of the Agency’s mandate is the management of chemicals to ensure environmental protection and sustainability. The environmentally sound management of chemicals is pursued in line with international conventions, best practices as well as domestic legislation and standards. Being the worker of the Agency my responsibility is the prevention and management of chemical incidents together with other government institutions. My work monitors the chain of custody of Hazardous substances and helps in preventing environmental damage due to chemical spillages, misuse and dumping of chemical waste.
