Through the Environmental Health & Safety office at Colorado School of Mines, all chemical requisitions are approved and ordered. Not only does this provide safer handling of chemicals, smaller quantities are ordered, qualified scientists are handling these, and there is less generation of chemical waste. Through this implementation, there are less chemical spills, more chemical awareness in lab safety, all laboratory researchers and students are trained yearly in hazardous waste generating and lab safety. This is a unique situation and it has created a safer environment.
