Regional meeting for the development of a regional standard on lead in paint in the ECOWAS region
Lead is a cumulative toxicant that poses serious risks to human health and development, with children being especially vulnerable. Lead-containing paint remains one of the major sources of lead exposure for children globally and has been identified as one of the international Emerging Policy Issues of concern by the Strategic Approach for International Chemicals Management (SAICM). Workshop on Toys: “Virtual Expert Group”
In July 2020, UNEP convened an online meeting of key stakeholders from the toy sector to present the initial results of a study screening chemicals in toys for potential concern and to consult preliminary research results on an overview of regulatory approaches. The meeting also focussed on identifying opportunities for further action to address the issue of chemicals of concern in toys on an international level.
