With over 30 years experience on policy and practice related to pesticide regulation, management, use disposal and remediation, I support diverse programmes aiming to eliminate risks from pesticides, reduce pesticide use, promote sustainable agricultural practices and strengthen pesticide regulation and management.

GAPROFFA research works on chemicals contributes to the capacity building through awareness-raising, training, advocacy and research at 3 levels: At the Micro level: Target groups are the actors most exposed to chemicals. They are farmers, craftsmen, transporters and all the tradesmen, including women and youth. The messages sensitize these target groups on the rational using of chemicals in their activities because most of them are illiterate. We promote policies and practices that reduce reliance on hazardous pesticides. We also conduct grassroots science and advocacy with communities directly harmed by industrial agriculture, including community-scale farmers, farmworkers, rural families and Indigenous communities.

I am in charge of deepening Bayer's work with major United Nations agencies relevant to the Crop Science business (e.g. including UNEP) and identify transformational partnerships to advance global multi-stakeholder action on sustainable food systems as well as helping to advance UN Sustainable Development Goals. I represent Bayer in policy proceedings and in the dialogue around sustainable agriculture with these organizations.I have extensive experience working in research, projects and policy focusing on food systems in sub-Saharan Africa, South America and Europe. Given what we know about pesticide use in Tanzania, there is significant population exposure and health effects. We participate in efforts geared towards management of pesticide-related occupational and environmental health hazards by documenting exposures and their related health and environmental impact and mobilizing action towards prevention of exposure and controlling effects to the environment and populations at risk. By doing so, we contribute to a healthier environment.

Trained as a political scientist, my work focusses on supporting UNEP and its stakeholders to further develop the strategic approach to international chemicals management (SAICM) to protect human health and the environment and work towards a chemical safe future for all
