The Global Forum on Environment will discuss the challenges posed by chemicals and provide knowledge on effective and sustainable policies for the sound management of chemicals. The event will bring together leading actors in the field of chemicals management to promote effective engagement, collaboration and action on the sound management of chemicals and waste. Participants will include regulators and policy makers in charge of chemical safety in OECD member and partner countries as well as relevant stakeholders from intergovernmental organisations

The workshop provided an overview of the Lead Paint Alliance recommended actions and available advice to support the establishment of lead paint laws in Peru, Ecuador and Colombia. Participants were representatives from the Peruvian, Ecuadorian and Colombian government, as well as industry representatives. It also raises awareness on the draft technical guidelines on paint reformulation and the new trend in the industry among selected small and medium-sized enterprises representatives. Data and information on health and economic impact, country lead paint testing, current legislation, and paint market situation are presented and discussed with government officials (environment, health, industry). The SAICM GEF project is presented and includes the work plans for the SME demonstration pilots. Project work on legal assistance is also introduced.
