The fourth meeting of the Conference of the Parties (COP4) to the Minamata Convention on Mercury is expected to review the Convention’s Annexes A and B and financial mechanism, and conduct an effectiveness review of the Convention. The Minamata Convention was adopted to address mercury, a heavy metal that is persistent in the environment. The Convention was adopted on 10 October 2013, and entered into force on 16 August 2017. The Global Forum on Environment will discuss the challenges posed by chemicals and provide knowledge on effective and sustainable policies for the sound management of chemicals. The event will bring together leading actors in the field of chemicals management to promote effective engagement, collaboration and action on the sound management of chemicals and waste. Participants will include regulators and policy makers in charge of chemical safety in OECD member and partner countries as well as relevant stakeholders from intergovernmental organisations

The event, organized by Nexus 4 (formerly BaliFokus, an IPEN NGO partner) aims to officially launch the "Elimination of Lead in Paint" project implementation in Indonesia as well as share and discuss information related to lead paint both in the global and country context. The overall goal of the workshop is to discuss in detail the project work plan and the draft technical guidelines on paint reformulation as it applies to SMEs.
