Elena Jardan is working at WHO in the Chemicals safety and health unit, responsible for lead-related projects. She is a medical doctor in preventive toxicology with advanced degrees in hygiene and public health. She has developed materials to support government decision-making, e.g. on chemicals regulation (including health and economic impacts), workers’ health, environmental health and implementation of international agreements. She has organized several International Lead Poisoning Prevention Week campaigns.

She worked for the non-profit organization Health Care without Harm as project manager in Latin America, organizing workshops and projects to eliminate mercury, hazardous waste, sustainble procurement, and environmental management in hospitals and other health facilities in Costa Rica, Honduras, Mexico , Nicaragua, Colombia, Panama and Guatemala.
